TITLE: Opera House Arts Brings Enchantment to the Stage with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Stonington, ME – Opera House Arts is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Opera House Arts’ Artistic Director Kathryn Markey. The play will run from June 19 to June 29 at the historic Stonington Opera House.

With a long history of Shakespeare on the Stonington Opera House’s stage, Markey is delighted to bring back the perennial favorite, A Midsummer Night’s Dream to help celebrate the 25th year of Opera House Arts as a 501c(3). Executive Director Erika Sanger said “With this production we are honoring our history, acknowledging how far the organization has come, and honoring the culture of the island that the Opera House calls home.”

A talented cast of 10 will bring to life this timeless tale of love, magic, and mistaken identities.  A diverse group of actors portray the complex characters of the play, including the feuding fairy royals Oberon and Titania, the mischievous Puck, and the four young lovers caught in a web of enchantment. The cast quickly changes identities to portray a troupe of blue-collar amateur actors who provide comic relief through their ill-fated attempts at theater. Unlike traditional Shakespeare productions, this unique staging is set in the picturesque coastal town of Stonington.

The run of Midsummer will include a Pay What You Can performance at 6pm on Wednesday, June 25.  Pay What You Can performances are part of the Opera Houses’ commitment to growing accessibility to the arts through removing cost as a barrier to live theater.

The entire performance schedule includes the following dates and times:

• Thursday, June 19 at 7pm
• Friday, June 20 at 7pm
• Saturday, June 21 at 7pm
• Sunday, June 22 at 2pm
• Wednesday, June 25 at 6pm (Pay What You Can)
• Thursday, June 26 at 7pm
• Friday, June 27 at 7pm
• Saturday, June 28 at 7pm
• Sunday, June 29 at 2pm
